Gardening in the other square

The newly formed Friends of Union Square Gardens enjoyed their first volunteer gardening day in early March. The group is made up of local residents who live on or near the square who are keen to improve the condition of the gardens for everyone who uses them. They claim not to have ambitions to follow in Arlington Square’s amazing footsteps but through planting, tidying and coming together, they hope to breathe a bit of life into this slightly neglected park.

Organiser Camilla Stoddart tells us their first gardening day was a very satisfying session enjoyed by everyone who came, especially the junior helpers. Union Square’s next gardening day will be in May and the Friends hope to have a fundraising fun day in the summer for children and dog-lovers. Do please contact Camilla if you would like to get involved: camilla@stoddart.uk.net.
