We are looking for fresh ideas and we need people to help organised the event. So please email us at arlingtonassociation@hotmail.co.uk if you have been to a fete or function and have been impressed by some aspect of it you think would add our event. Also if you are interested in helping to organise the event please email, we will not be too demanding of your time and you can commit to what time you can spare.

Former church on Arlington Square in 1942
As part of our research for this website we have recently uncovered this photo of St Philip’s church that once stood on Arlington Square (where Arbon Court is now located).
St Philip’s was built in 1855 to provide a place of worship for the residents of the recently constructed Clothworkers’ estate. Due to lack of funds it took a while to complete and was consecrated in January 1857 and could accommodate 1100 people. By the end of the Second World War the church was in a decaying state and the church closed. In 1954 the church was being used to store cardboard boxes and after a fire in part of the building permission was given to demolish it. Arbon Court was built in 1958. The original vicarage for St Philip’s still stands and now is the vicarage for St James’s in Prebend Street. At the rear of the church on Rees Street (where the Rees Street Community Garden now stands) there was a Church School.
Please get in touch if you have knowledge of the history of the area or have old photos. We will be updating the history section of the website in the coming months.

HM The Queen
Royalist or Republican, Monday 4th June is a public holiday and we invite you to join us for the Arlington Association Diamond Jubilee Big Lunch.
We hope this will be a fun filled day that will be enjoyed by all and enhance our community spirit. Please feel free to invite friends or relatives who live outside the area.
Bring along a picnic and enjoy meeting your neighbours, there will be live music, games and activities. Some tables and chairs will be available or bring a picnic rug.
A key highlight of the day will be a children’s fancy dress competition – the themes are Best Royal, Best Crown and Best 1950's outfit.
We need volunteers to help on the day, only for an hour or so and you will have plenty of time to enjoy yourself. If you can help, please contact us at arlingtonassociation@hotmail.co.uk
